Westside Gunn is a rare phenomenon within the current hip-hop landscape: behind his iconic ad-libs and eccentric personality lies a true visionary with a keen eye for style and culture. In the mid-2010s, he broke through as the driving force behind Griselda, alongside Conway the Machine and Benny the Butcher. With his unmistakable voice and love of luxury, art and fashion, he emerged as one of the most influential voices in and beyond New York through projects such as ‘FLYGOD’ (2016) and ‘Pray for Paris’ (2020).
With ‘HEELS HAVE EYES’, Gunn took a new direction last year: a series of three short, curated projects in which his signature sound, regular circle of collaborators and eye for detail come together. His role as curator takes centre stage, and the music feels like a carefully constructed exhibition, in which aesthetics, atmosphere and detail carry just as much weight as the bars.
